The RapNet Diamond Index for 1-carat laboratory-graded diamonds fell 1.4% during August. This price decline comes on top of the 2.4% decline reported last month.

Rapnet also reported a 1.5% decline in 0.30-carat diamonds for the August period. The price for this same category declined 1.3% in July.

The category of 0.50-carat diamonds fell 1% after a .3% increase in the July period.

3-carat diamonds fell 1.2%. Manufacturers citing a liquidity tightening amongst buyers who avoided making large inventory purchases in advance of the Hong Kong Jewelry and Gem Fair.

Manufacturers currently have significant quantities of rough inventory, which has further pressured their liquidity. Rough buying is expected to slow further in September.
