Naperville may tighten regulations on pawnshops and other secondhand stores in an effort to recover stolen jewelry.

Councilman Steve Chirico requested the ordinance last September after a rash of home burglaries, and councilmen got their first look at the proposed language Tuesday.

The draft ordinance would require pawnshops and secondhand stores to record information about jewelry into a searchable online database that would include photos of both the seller and the items.
