Hopkins County officials are looking at setting some new rules for pawn shops in the county. It comes nearly three months after a Madisonville pawn shop was raided back in February, with five of its employees accused of selling stolen items.
“This is just something I think we have to keep up with,” says Hopkins Co. Judge Executive Donnie Carroll. There are rules in business. But in Hopkins County, some businesses don’t have rules. “We had no ordinances as to any guidelines for the pawn shops,” Carroll says. But officials are working on a new ordinance for pawn shops located in the county, focusing on record keeping and tracking property that could be stolen.
