It looks like higher end stores will see an increase in their average holiday sales but not so much with the bargain stores. Worthington-based Prosper Insights & Analytics have been looking digging into their data and their main finding is this: above average income families have a more positive outlook and are expecting to spend more this holiday season while mid-level income families expect to spend about the same. Lower income families expect to spend less.

Retailers like the Gap, Amazon.com and Macy’s should expect to see above average sales, while Target, Sears and Best Buy should expect about the same as last year. The troubling news is that stores like Wal-Mart, Kmart and Dollar General should expect lower than averages sales.

Luckily the reputation of pawn shops has been increasing over the years and many can be seen as higher end retailers. That said, pawn shops can still be seen as a place to get a good deal. Getting a reputation as a shop that has high quality inventory but can also save their customers money takes more than running a few ads. Shops with their eye on the holiday season may want to start improving the “curb appeal” of their shops to start attracting customers who are in the upper income brackets.
